Chile Pepper Species

There are five species of domesticated peppers,
and few dozens of wild pepper species out there.

Here are the five domesticated species:

 

Capsicum annuum

The most common species icluding Jalapenos,
Cayennes and bell peppers.

 

Capsicum frutescens

Known best as the main ingredient in
the famous Tabasco-sauce.

 

Capsicum chinense

The hottest pods including the
deadly hot Habaneros.

Capsicum baccatum

Includes the South American
tasty Aji’s

Capsicum pubescens

Very pungent thick walled pods
grown by incas for milleniums.
